Good Things To Know About Indianapolis

The historical development trend in Indianapolis has been north and northeast. Therefore the largest number of new or newer homes is located in the northern suburbs of Carmel, Fishers, and Castleton/Geist. This includes all prices ranges.

The road and highway system in Indianapolis is very good. We don't think of traveling in terms of miles, but rather in minutes. Utilizing I-465, the beltway around Indianapolis, the entire city is accessible in 30 to 35 minutes from virtually anywhere.

If you are a sports fan, season and single game tickets are usually available for Colts or Pacer games. They are always available for Ice (hockey) and Indians (baseball) games.

Virtually every neighborhood in Indianapolis and its suburban communities is racially integrated to some extent, as are the school systems.

The Indianapolis International Airport is located 12 miles southwest of downtown and is served by 15 airlines to over 90 destinations. Parking is generally plentiful in the long term parking lots, and bus shuttle service to and from the terminal is provided free of charge.

Indianapolis is not a big taxi town. Other than the airport itself, or unless you are staying at a downtown or airport hotel, you will need to telephone for a taxi.

The Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra annually performs a series of outdoor concerts at the Connor Prairie Pioneer Settlement on the northeast side of town. Tickets are reasonable (about $8), and the music and atmosphere are unbeatable. Bring the kids.

The Indianapolis Zoo and Children's Museum are outstanding attractions and we highly recommend them for all kids from 3 to 93.

Downtown Indianapolis has really come alive with the opening of the huge Circle Centre Mall. Parking is plentiful and inexpensive, and the number and variety of stores, restaurants, etc. will make any shopper happy.

And don't hesitate to shop, dine, or attend other activities downtown after dark. Compared to comparable size cities, downtown Indianapolis is very safe, and longtime residents typically don't give a second thought to spending time there day or night.
